As a woman, I am very interested in issues that affect women in our society. When the issue of abuse came much too close to home, I began to see first-hand how women who are abused can stay in the situation and not try to leave. I also saw how emotional abuse takes self-confidence and feelings of self-worth and destroys them. I saw a strong, confident, bright young woman become a withdrawn, shuttered person who doubted every decision she made, and blamed herself for her situation. As I helped her make the choice to leave and provided support to help her get back on her feet, I began to understand much more about the needs of the women who suffer from physical and emotional abuse. This book addresses the topic from a personal standpoint. This is not a light-hearted, playful popup book. Written in first person, it reflects the indecision and uncertainty that most abused women feel. The ambiguous end leaves the viewer to decide if the woman leaves the situation or becomes a fatal victim.
